Abdulla Al Hamed honours Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi for ranking ‘outstanding’ in Abu Dhabi Healthcare Quality Index

9 Mar, 2021: The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has ranked Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi as ‘outstanding’ with a “5 diamonds” rating for its effective and timely care for patients, staff satisfaction and drive for innovation in its Abu Dhabi Healthcare Quality Index - Muashir, aligned with global best practices to evaluate the quality of healthcare providers in the Emirate.

The announcement was made at a recognition ceremony held today at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in the presence of H.E Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi and H.E. Dr. Jamal Mohammed Alkaabi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi. H.E. Al Hamed handed over the 5-diamond plaque to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which will be publicly displayed at the hospital, as a testament to its commitment to providing exceptional world-class healthcare services to its patients. The health authority will also give the Muashir ‘5 diamonds’ plaques to other top performing hospitals in Abu Dhabi.

H.E Abdulla Al Hamed said: “With the UAE wise leadership’s unwavering support during these unprecedented times the world is facing, Abu Dhabi’s healthcare sector has distinguished itself as it continues to work in a one team spirit to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all members of the community, continuing to push forward the wheel of growth and take it to new horizons. H.E Al Hamed praised CCAD and all its employees, without exception for their dedicated efforts and keenness to provide world-class healthcare services, so that the hospital would be a quality addition to the emirate’s healthcare sector and drive its excellence.”

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) launched Muashir, the Abu Dhabi Healthcare Quality Index, in collaboration with key stakeholders, healthcare providers and international experts to provide a transparent overview of quality in the sector to the public. The index rates Abu Dhabi’s healthcare providers’ performance in multiple dimensions and assigns an overall quality ranking on a scale of one to five diamonds. The aim is to provide healthcare services of exceptional quality to Abu Dhabi’s residents, establishing and maintaining the highest quality standards and further improving patient experience.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi attained ‘5 diamonds’ for overall performance in the most recent Muashir Ranking. According to the report, the hospital demonstrated outstanding quality performance among Abu Dhabi healthcare facilities.

According to the ranking, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi demonstrated outstanding performance in areas including patient and staff happiness, clinical care outcomes, research and innovation, as well as quality assurance.

Department of Health – Abu Dhabi noted that Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi conducted 103 research studies in 2019 – the highest number conducted in Abu Dhabi that year. The hospital also achieved 91.4 percent points in patient experience for inpatients, which is higher than the average international benchmark, modeled on the Press Ganey Strategic Consultant in Patient experience.

H.E Alkaabi said: “Abu Dhabi has distinguished itself with its world-class healthcare ecosystem, as a result of the solid quality framework and robust regulations set in place. We are extremely proud to honor Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi for their outstanding performance in Abu Dhabi Healthcare Index and commend its effort to providing the highest standards of quality which the Emirate aspires to achieve for Abu Dhabi based-residents and visitors.”

Alkaabi added: “The Abu Dhabi Healthcare Quality Index – Muashir, encourages healthy competition between healthcare providers in the Emirate. This has a positive impact on instilling a culture of quality as a method of work in Abu Dhabi’s healthcare facilities and competing to provide the best quality possible while engaging the public in assessing the quality of healthcare services, allowing to provide the best safety and healthcare standards for patients living and visiting the Emirate of Abu Dhabi”.

Dr. Rakesh Suri, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said: “Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is consistently striving to raise the bar for healthcare quality in the UAE and this ranking validates our efforts.
We are here for the whole community when they need us most, and we work hard to ensure that patients experience the highest standards of clinical care, driven by innovation and collaboration.”

“We also believe that there is a direct correlation between our staff happiness and engagement, and patient satisfaction, safety and outcomes. Achieving the highest performance score in this area demonstrates that we are committed to taking care of our caregivers and creating a culture where teamwork and accountability thrive.”

“The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has demonstrated a strong commitment to elevating the quality of care available across the Emirate and we are proud to work alongside them in this endeavor. Not only will the Muashir index continue to improve the already high levels of care on offer in Abu Dhabi, it will also support patients in making more informed choices on where to receive their care,” concluded Dr. Suri.

The Abu Dhabi Healthcare Quality Index “Muashir” system builds upon the Department’s earlier initiative, Jawda, that was introduced in 2014. DoH classifies healthcare facilities according to the Diamonds Rating System. A single diamond denotes ‘good’, two diamonds is ‘very good’, three diamonds is ‘excellent’, four diamonds is ‘exceptional’, and five diamonds is ‘outstanding’.
