H.E Abdulla Al Hamed launches the ‘Health Workforce Upskilling Platform’

8 Dec, 2020: During GITEX Technology Week 2020, H.E Abdulla bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health Abu Dhabi, today launched the ‘Health Workforce Upskilling Platform,’ an online training platform that develops the skills of healthcare professionals dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The platform aims to train doctors, nurses, and health professionals who are not specialised in critical care medicine (ICU) – to empower and prepare them with the necessary skills needed to respond to emergencies and provide them with certified medical trainings that continuously develop them in accordance with the sector’s needs and international best practices.

The free platform consists of 10 virtual study units, all of which are compulsory for all healthcare professionals working in the ICU or those who may be called to work in the ICU, and five virtual study units that are compulsory for all healthcare professionals. There are optional units for physicians licensed by DoH as a specialist in critical care medicine or as consultants, and for nurses licensed by DoH as critical care nurses in accordance with the Unified Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements.

Shaikha Mohamed Nekhaira Al Dhaheri, Department Manager of Health Workforce Planning at DoH said: “Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been keen on documenting the lessons learned and exchanging the knowledge and experiences garnered, to ensure that we continue to improve the quality of health services and the efficiency of workers in the sector to achieve our vision of 'A Healthier Abu Dhabi.' Platform users will be able to learn more about the basics of working in the intensive care units so that they are ready and upskill themselves to be able to provide care to patients in these departments. This contributes to enhancing the sustainability of the sector and the availability of quality health services to those in need.”

Platform users will receive a certificate of completion of learning with credited hours from the Continuing Medical Education (CME) after completing the required units. Healthcare professionals are required to complete the program requirements before March 31, 2021.
