Due to being abstinent from Tobacco for up to 14 hours a day!-Ramadan is your Golden Opportunity to Quit Tobacco

6 Jun, 2018: Abu Dhabi – June 07, 2018: The Department of Health, the regulator of healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi, is advising all tobacco users to take Ramadan as an excellent opportunity to quit all forms of tobacco and enjoy a new beginning of tobacco-free life.

DoH is directing all tobacco users to visit any of the tobacco cessation clinics available in Abu Dhabi to get medical guidance and support needed to quit tobacco. To view the list of tobacco cessation clinics in the Emirate or for contact details please visit: www.haad.ae\weqaya\smokingcessationclinics

In this regard, Dr. Farida Al Hosani, Acting Director of Public Health Division at Department of Health Abu Dhabi said “Stemming from its belief “prevention is better than cure” and towards its vision for “a healthier Abu Dhabi”, the Department of Health intensifies efforts to highlight the dangers of tobacco and promote best ways to quit tobacco. We renew efforts during the month of Ramadan - the perfect timing to create a positive change in people’s lives by making the move to healthy eating choices, doing physical activity and quitting all forms of tobacco. Adding that tobacco abstinence by tobacco user during fasting hours is a clear evidence of his ability to quit tobacco forever, self-determination and medical/moral support remains the main factors for the successful journey to quit tobacco.”

Al Hosani added: “This Ramadan make a commitment to talk to your doctor, friends and family about your desire to quit smoking. Their support will be invaluable in stopping you from smoking when stressed or in Smokey environments.”

This comes in coincidence with the World No Tobacco Day on May 31 and part of its annual campaign under the slogan “Abu Dhabi Says No to Smoking”, with an aim to combat tobacco use in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The campaign will take place during May 31 to June 22.
