Over 550 healthcare experts and scientists to participate in the first Abu Dhabi Trauma and ECMO conference

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the emirate, is organising the first Abu Dhabi Trauma and ECMO conference taking place on 25 and 26 May 2022 in Dusit Thani Hotel, Abu Dhabi. This event seeks to leverage the knowledge and expertise of internationally recognized experts in trauma care to discuss the latest evidence and practice in caring for injured patients across all phases of care. The two-day event will witness a global participation of over 550 key healthcare experts and scientists representing France, USA, KSA, UK and more. 

With focus on trauma, prehospital care and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), the conference seeks to enhance the care level of trauma patients in Abu Dhabi, establish a route map for patients in need of ECMO, shed light on the importance of Trauma management and ECMO programmes in the field of healthcare and present the latest experiences and applications.  
The conference will present a robust agenda of three simultaneous tracks spread over two days addressing different aspects of trauma care. Topics will include pre-hospital trauma care, emergency and trauma nursing, complex trauma management, performance improvement, CBRNE and trauma, and management strategies for injured paediatric patients.

Through this conference, we seek to provide the local and international healthcare with a platform where global experts can discuss and tackle the latest evolvements related to traumatology and ECMO.”

The Conference will witness the attendance and participation of more than 550 experts and specialists in the field of traumatology and ECMO, including surgeons, doctors, nurses, perfusion specialists involved in the management of trauma. In addition to respiratory therapists involved in the management of patients with acute respiratory and circulatory failure requiring ECMO. 
Ahead of the conference, an ECMO workshop took place on 23 and 24 May in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which presented focused knowledge exchange on specific aspects of trauma care including prehospital care, burn care, critical care, orthopaedic care, vascular care, paediatric trauma care and management of the complex trauma patient. 

The conference is set to take place annually in Abu Dhabi to advance knowledge on one of the most important interventions in difficult-to-manage respiratory and circulatory failure cases, especially during the active waves of the COVID-19 pandemic and shed light on the most important and latest medical practices used and to raise the efficiency of health care.

Hosting the conference in Abu Dhabi adds to DoH’s ongoing efforts to position Abu Dhabi as a leading healthcare destination in quality care ensuring world-class healthcare is available and accessible for all members of the community. 
As trauma is one of the main causes of death for people of all ages around the world, ECMO is often used to support the function of both the heart and lungs, in trauma patients. On average, Abu Dhabi reports around 2300 cases on trauma on annual basis.
