Department of Health Launches Open Data Dashboards

25 Feb, 2019: Department of Health—Abu Dhabi (DoH) and Etihad Airways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that outlines areas of joint cooperation to promote Abu Dhabi as a leading destination for medical tourism in the region.

In the presence of H.E Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of DoH, the MoU was signed by H.E. Mohamed Hamad Al Hameli, Undersecretary of Department of Health and Mr. Tony Douglas Group Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Aviation Group.

The agreement aims to bring about concerted efforts in facilitating all travel-related processes in order to ensure a comfortable and seamless experience for patients flying to Abu Dhabi to seek world-class treatment. In addition, the collaboration will see both entities joining forces to promote the medical tourism sector in Abu Dhabi.

H.E. Al Hameli commented: “We are delighted to continue working alongside our strategic partners at Etihad Airways to explore new avenues for mutual cooperation that supports our efforts to promote Abu Dhabi’s growing medical tourism sector. This cooperation aims to cement Abu Dhabi’s position as one of the leading destinations for medical tourism both regionally and globally as well as boost its global competitiveness. Abu Dhabi boasts world-class tourism offerings and a solid healthcare infrastructure that enables the healthcare sector to continue providing the highest quality of services. In addition, it has enabled the sector to continue growing its medical tourism offerings in various specialties and subspecialties.”

Tony Douglas, Group Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Etihad is intrinsically linked and aligned to Abu Dhabi and its vision of enhancing the tourism sector, in every form and at every opportunity. We are therefore delighted to now sign this Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, which complements our already established Medical Tourism project.”

In December 2018, the DoH and Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT) in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, the National Health Insurance Company, Daman, Eithad Airways and a number of Abu Dhabi’s healthcare facilities had launched the Abu Dhabi Medical Tourism e-portal that presents international patients with the variety of healthcare and tourism services they need to plan their trip and stay in Abu Dhabi.
