Department of Health – Abu Dhabi Revokes One Physician’s Licence and Suspends Another in Firm Measures Against Controlled Medication Violations

14 Oct, 2026:

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the Emirate, has announced the revocation of one physician’s licence and the suspension of another following the detection of breaches of controlled medication regulations. These measures form part of DoH’s regulatory oversight to protect patient safety, ensure compliance with the highest standards of medical practice and strengthen professional accountability across the healthcare sector.

The violations were identified through coordinated oversight by the relevant authorities, supported by DoH’s digital and intelligent monitoring systems and routine inspections. Monitoring revealed shortcomings in clinical assessment and patient follow-up, alongside failures to meet medical documentation requirements, including recording the clinical justification for prescribing controlled medications.

DoH affirmed that these measures reflect its firm approach to professional violations and its commitment to ensuring adherence to the legislation and regulations governing medical practice, particularly those relating to controlled medications, given their direct importance to patients’ health and safety.

The Department reiterated its commitment to developing and using digital and intelligent monitoring systems, alongside strengthening inspections and follow-up. These efforts support the detection of violations and appropriate action under established regulatory frameworks, reinforcing a healthcare system built on quality, safety and accountability.

DoH called on all healthcare professionals and facilities to comply fully with controlled medication regulations and meet requirements for clinical assessment, medical documentation and patient follow-up. It stressed that adherence to these standards is a fundamental professional responsibility essential to ensuring safe care.

The Department also highlighted the role of community members in supporting regulatory oversight and encouraged them to report any concerns or violations relating to healthcare services through its official channels, helping maintain the quality and safety of care across the Emirate.
